Diáspora is David de la Mano‘s latest mural painted in Barrio Oeste in Salamanca, Spain.
The new wall is part of the Galería Urbana project created by lemARTE in collaboration with the Barrio del Oeste neighbourhood ZOES.
Diaspora, as the title suggests, refers to particularly historical mass dispersions of an involuntary nature,  and in this case maybe the massive emigration of young Spaniards looking for jobs abroad.
According to an article published on The Telegraph a few months ago the total Spanish unemployment in the first three months of 2013 jumped by 237,000 to 6.2 million, which means that the country lost 3,581 jobs a day.
Then it’s hardly surprising that so many people leave the country in numbers that only can be compared to those during WWII.

But diaspora means so many things. The artist himself stresses that in his last murals he has been working with human streams like the ones we see in this new piece. At the same time the works are about individuals, each person being different and unique.
