This lovely mural is a beautiful homage to the great José Saramago and his life created by Protuguese artist Violant.
The mural, titled “A Pilar” or “To Pilar”, which happens to be the name of Saramago’s wife is according to the artist, neither about him nor about her. It’s about passion and love and what Saramago saw in her.

The pillars support the writer like Pilar did during their life together and according to the artist what we see is “the passion becoming a oneiric place, where his dreams were supported”.

The mural was painted in a school building in Golegã, a small town near where both Saramago and the artist himself were born. Don’t forget to have a look at the video (Portuguese only)
