The dutch duo Graphic Surgery created at the Vondelbunker a space cultural space at the heart of Vondelpark in Amsterdam.
Graphic Surgery works different medium and everything from design, video and public murals to installation, (among other things), but what stays the same in their practise is the paired back visual language deployed and the predominantly black and white non colour scheme that has become their trademark.
According to Graphic Surgery their imagery “owes as much to the urban environment that surrounds them as they do to the history of modern art and design. De Stijl and Constructivism being clear reference points.” being this new installation a good example of this.

Hidden in the Vondelpark, underneath the Vondelbridge in Amsterdam, lies an old fallout shelter from the year 1947. Previously Beatkelder Lijn 3, the Vondelbunker is now run by cultural collective Schijnheilig. They asked us to paint the entire space. The outcome almost looks like a modern interpretation of a wall painting by Franz Kline and Sol Lewitt. – Graphic Surgery
