The elusive UK artist Banksy published yesterday a series of new works in Gaza giving form to a politically charged travelogue of a war-ravaged neighbourhood.
The images appeared on his website and YouTube channel late Wednesday with the title “Make this the year YOU discover a new destination.” with a footage showing Palestinian civilians standing among the ruins of a devastated nation.
The first image of the Gaza project, representing the Greek myth of Niobe (image above) symbolizes bereaved mothers. Two other of Banksy’s artworks shows children playing on swings around a dark watchtower and a large kitten. The fourth piece is a graffiti that reads as follows: ”
In addition to this four pieces, Banksy released a two-minute video (posted below) featuring his new art works highlighting the situation of the 1.8 million Palestinian residents in Gaza, a place often described as ‘the world’s largest open air prison’ because no-one is allowed to enter or leave.
