Romanian artist, illustrator and muralist Saddo will be opening this evening A Stranger in the Garden, his newest solo show at BC Gallery in Berlin.
A Stranger in the Garden  has to do with death, one of the main concerns in human society and a source of religious traditions, rituals, myths and philosophical debates. The concept of Death is also a subject that has haunted the artist’s mind for a while. It is this fascination with death that has driven him to explore different ways of seeing death – as a state, a process, a threatening thought, or even personified as a deity.
The idea of Death is subjective which means that it can be perceived and dealt
with in different cultures and religions, and acquire different meanings, specific or unspecific. Among some personifications of death we find some Death deities of ambiguous character which again may vary from culture to culture.
It is this kind of personifications and the idea around them that give shape to A Stranger in The Garden (a title inspired by Luis Buñuel’s “Death in The Garden”) suggesting that mystery which surrounds them and the many ways in which it can be perceived.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Saddo is a Romanian artist, who studied Graphics in Cluj-Napoca, Romania, where together with a few friends he founded one of the first Romanian street art collectives about 10 years ago. Since then he has been through lots of phases and had many different influences, from cartoons, sci-fi and fantasy books and movies, street art, Renaissance art, the works of Arcimboldo, Brueghel, Bosch, Walton Ford, naturalistic illustrations of plants and birds, floral patterns, and many others. He lived all over Romania, one year in Berlin, one year in Lisbon, time during which he was influenced by the vibe of each city, the local history and the imagery, constantly working towards perfecting his technique and subjects with each new project. His latest body of work draws influence from myths, religious imagery, and touches on subjects like violence in human history, the passing of time, nostalgia for a lost luxurious paradise, mortality and death.

The exhibition opens today at 6pm at the gallery located on Libauer Straße 14, 10245 Berlin, and will run until April 28th.
