johannes_mundinger_urbanspree_1German visual artist Johannes Mundinger painted this beautiful mural in occasion of his upcoming exhibition Unterm Nebel at Urban Spree in Berlin.

Painted in different tones of blues with only small patches of reds that balance the composition, the mural bears a touch of melancholy. Architectonic structures, landscapes and perspective planes seem to overlap and melt together into something that could remind you a dream sequence, a memory or a still from an old silent movie.

Unterm Nebel, which means below the fog, follows the same concept, something the artist explains as follows:
‘The impressions we have aren’t reliable, it was a lifetime ago and now we have vague feelings of atmospheres, colours and smells; everything else remains inside a dense fog that psychiatry calls the consciousness. There are a few images that remain in our memory, from our early years we don’t remember them but they form us. Our behaviours, our personalities and our lives all rely on those things we think we have forgotten.’

The exhibition will consist of a new body of work where – as usual – the boundaries between abstraction and figuration are unclear, and where the artist captures blurry memory leftovers with the intention to establish an intimate dialogue with the viewer. If I have to be honest, I am really looking forward to see this exhibition and review it for real!

Unterm Nebel opens on March 4th and will be on view until  March 20th at the gallery located on Revaler Str. 99, Berlin.
