Selfie, 2016 (detail)Beginning on May 4th, London’s Opera Gallery will be presenting ‘Between Here and There’ featuring the fascinating work of Swiss artist Andy Denzler.

Combining  a variety of medium, his work moves between abstraction and nostalgic photorealism, creating snap-shots of distorted moments; portraits of people that seem frozen in time and extracted from their original context.
Influenced by abstract expressionism from the 1950s and Swiss geometric painters like Richard P. Lohse, Andy Denzler spent more than a decade producing abstract art while developing his visual language. Because of his background in new media and computer graphics he was soon captured by the ideas of motion and distortion in his paintings. It is here when “Time” becomes the essence in Denzler’s work, focusing in the diffraction of the images in an attempt to catch the ephemerality of a single moment in such a way that can remind us of paused picture frame from VHS reels.

His latest series ‘Between Here and There’ explores the romantic idea of young urban creatives’ existence in the inner city life: a creative mind surrounded by the decay of buildings and a search for identity in a fast paced world.

“Between Here and There” runs through May 20 at Opera Gallery located on 134 New Bond Street, London. For more information visit:
