Titled “In-between” and painted for this year’s ALTrove Festival, this new mural by French artist Nelio represents a good example of his work in recent years.
Inspired by his graphic design experience, as well as the work of classical painters like Miro, Kandinsky, Vasarely, Picasso, El lissitzky (just to mention a few), and the installations of Kurt Schwitters and Gordon Matta Clark, along with other great contemporary artists like Eltono, Remed, 108 and Momo.
Apart from the urge to communicate an idea or a message in one simple image, Nelio’s murals deal with existing elements like the surrounding architecture and landscape. One of the main reasons for which he progressively introduces geometric elements into his paintings; symbols that give shape to an intimate conversation with the painted space. “In between” refers maybe to the locating of this old and free-standing building clearly detached from the surrounding architecture, something between old and modern, decayed and new.
