Spanish artist Gonzalo Borondo, better known as juyst Borondo, was recently in the US invited to take part of the Art(Re)Public mural project organised in Jacksonville, Florida.
Titled “Show” and based on the French philosopher Guy Debord’s “The Society of Spectacle”, the new mural features the image of a theatre interpreting Debord’s idea about the changing relation between direct experience and mediated representation in modern times, according to Debord, everything that was directly lived has moved away into a representation. There is no longer a separation between material “real life” and the false represented one, the spectacle. They are intertwined to such a degree that “the true is a moment of the false”. Reality becomes appearance, which again becomes our shaped reality; in his words “a falsification of social life”.
