It’s been a while since I last published something about French artist GoddoG. Last week was he in Portugal invited to take part of this years Arte Publica in Loures, a charming town next to Lisboa.
The mural was painted in the Quinta do Mocho neighbourhood, considered for many years as a dangerous area, ravaged by crime, drugs and unemployment. However, the area has seen a revival thanks to projects like Arte Publica bringing street art to the area that is inspired by the people who live there. The aim of this projects is to change the ‘bad’ image of the neighbourhood, create exchange, bring change, inspire, and improve locals’ environment.
The mural is described by GoddoG as a totem with three faces; two of them look at the left and one to the left. This because youngsters don’t look neither to the left nor the right when walking and because of the restrictive presence of the police at all times. The idea was to paint a colourful and bright piece that could bring some joy to Quinta do Mocho’s inhabitants.
