Munich-based artist Rafael Gerlach aka SatOne just finished this stunning piece, completely redesigning and painting an entire house in Pfaffenhofen, Germany

“UNDER ONE ROOF“ as the mural was titled, was created within the framework of the “Kulturweg” or Cultural Trail of  Pfaffenhofener’s Kultursommer 2017. The event
takes place during the course of 3 months – from Friday 26 May to 20 August – in occasion of the garden show 2017 in Pfaffenhofen.
Including 30 different stations, the cultural trail is linked to exhibitions, open air concerts, festivals and a beautiful garden area.
In addition to this, 15 local and internationally renowned artists were invited to intervene the city’s public space during the summer with installations and mural paintings. One of them is SatOne who, playing with the architectural lines of the structure, completely transformed this otherwise ordinary house.

The new mural is characteristic of the style that Rafael Gerlach has been developing during the last years. His creations, non-figurative in the essence, represent imaginary worlds and abstract forms that open up for several interpretations capturing moments of distorted realities. The meaning is not given or obvious, inviting the viewer to explore the painted surface and draw their own conclusions. The almost 3-dimensional effect of this new mural invite us, not only to reflexion, but also to wonder through the painted surface in an attempt to become part of it. Whoever experienced Rothko’s monumental paintings will understand what I am talking about. A seriously stunning piece, isn’t it?

About the artist

Rafael Gerlach aka SatOne, was born in Venezuela in 1977. At the age of two he and his family moved back to Munich where he currently lives and works. After starting out in graffiti in the 90s, then training as a graphic designer a few years later, he gradually developed a twofold field of exploration combining abstraction and colour, and revealing an introspective reflection that connects the work of art and the spectator. Self-proclaimed independent artist, SatOne prefers to not be confined to any movement, and regards his studio as an experimental laboratory where he gives shape to a rich, free aesthetic which is open to personal analysis.
