A group of eight German artists travelled a couple of weeks ago to Bulgaria invited to take part in a very special project. The so-called “Flickenteppich” project, as it has been titled, was supported by Goethe Institute Bulgaria and gave them the chance to meet and collaborate with local artists creating a series of urban interventions around the institute and around.
Literally translated, „Flickenteppich“ means rag rug, and is according to the artists a reference to the Sofia’s sidewalks which, as a result of its use, decay and repair, they look like a vivid mosaic built using different kind of stones, holes and layers. An interesting pattern consisting of different shapes and colours, stones with nice sounds and trip hazards. This became their main source of inspiration improvising and combining the different elements and integrating them into their own work and style resulting in a series of highly experimental and interesting pieces.
The artists participating on this super fun and exciting project are: the duo Zebu composed of Dennis Gärtner and Lynn Lehmann, Nils Leimkühler and Moritz Neuhoff from Natur Kunstgruppe, Loriot, Steffen Mischke, Johannes Mundinger and Ludwig Schult.
