Sicilian artist Marco Mangione, also known as GUE, was recently in Ravenna, Italy where he completely transformed the Darsena pop up’s skatepark into a bright and dynamic colour composition as part of Subsidenze, an annual event dedicated to public art in the city of Ravenna, north Italy.

The skatepark is nestled in a newly refurbished urban area, close to the historic center of Ravenna, being the Darsena Popup, a recreational and sports complex built along the banks of the river.

Being part of the scene since 2003, Gue’s style has developed from incorporating abstract figurative motifs to fully abstract, and from going from a lightness of form and delicacy of colour gradations and transparencies to bright and striking pieces like the one presented here. His works create what the artist calls “flexible space”, opening a dialogue with the surrounding architecture and landscape.

GUE’s intervention covers the entire skatepark, offering the possibility of sensory and perceptive involvement in those who cross the surface. Soft shapes and curved lines suggest the idea of movement generated by skaters and bikers on ramps, colors seek to highlight the surface’s three dimensionality, offering an immediate ability to read volumes. A new point of reference realized by the reuse of containers typical of a port context.
