Here are a few images of RATUR (Arthur Maslard) & SCKARO (Oscar Maslard)’s latest mural, painted for the Out In the Open mural project in Aalborg, Denmark.

Entitled ‘ A Trip in Time’ and curated by Galleri Kirk the new mural intends to highlight and explore how we interact and communicate today, and how it affects the way we relate to each other. The mural depicts a man in a hurry which reminds me of these typical newspaper boys on a bicycle we used to see in old movies. Quickly ridding his bike into an @ symbol with a letter in his hand, ready to deliver it to someone.
There is no doubt that our communication methods have change drastically during recent years. I remember that 15 years ago, I would send my grandma letters in the mail and I would not have and answer until 4 months later. Eventually we moved onto emailing, Facebook, Messenger and finally Whatsapp (not promoting anything here), all just during the course of the last 5 years.

If there is something important we want to say, we send an email, text, or other digital message instead of an old-fashioned letter – with all of the advantages and disadvantages therein. Technology develops incredibly fast, and so does our frustration while our self-esteem decreases. As interconnectedness increases, so does our loneliness. At the same time we cannot ignore the huge vantage of this development. We are able to connect with people we otherwise would never meet and increase our understanding of the world.

This kind of reflections are exactly what the French brothers wished to achieve, to make us connect the past with the present and think about what influence this development has had on the way we live today.

In case you are around, you can find the mural near the gallery at Danmarksgade 29, Aalborg, Denmark.
