A couple of months ago, German artist Johannes Mundinger spent some time in Łódź, Poland, painting a mural with Russian street artist Ivan Ninety invited by Urban Forms Foundation and the Museum of Łódź.

Entitled ‘Still Life with Adler’ the mural stands as an homage to Jankel Adler, a Jewish-Polish painter and printmaker that also was the joint founder of “Jung Jidysz”, a group of avant-garde artists in Poland, and later a professor at the academy in Düsseldorf where he became acquainted with Paul Klee, who influenced his work. He continued teaching until the nazis came to power. With the outbreak of World War II in 1939, he volunteered for the Polish army that had been reconstituted in France. he died later in the UK as the only survivor of his family, all offers of the Holocaust.

The new mural was curated by Sasha Krolikova as part of Off Gallery 2.0, bringing artists from the city’s four origins; Polish, Russian, Jewish/Israeli and German to the city to leave a mural. Johannes and Ivan representing two of them. Here are a few images of the work.
