Last week was the opening of “Be Kind, rewind” by the duo Ratur and Sckaro, who presented an interesting new body of work at GCA Gallery in Nice.

Consisting of a series of paintings and drawings, the title of exhibition refers to the movie of the same name, where two store clerks inadvertently erase the footage from all of the tapes in their video rental store and see themselves forced to re-shoot every film in the store with their own camera, with a zero budget.

Like in the movie, Ratur and Sckaro take their father’s photographs as an starting point, creating their own aesthetic universe by mixing realism and what some have called ‘suspicion of improbability’. Other sources of inspiration for their work are Vermeer’s use of the light, Sandorfi for his shadow and light play, and German artist Rafael Gerlach aka Satone‘s vibrant and balanced palette.

Apart from painting, Ratur and Sckaro also find inspiration in literature, music and film, making their work both eclectic and interesting.

Active both outdoors (The volcano in Le Havre, Howard & 6th in St Francisco or Yellowstone) and in the studio, the two brothers focus on different techniques and media going from oil painting and acrylics to spray paint outdoors.

As expressed in the exhibition’s press release “Be kind, rewind” is a show endowed with a great pluridisciplinarity, which speaks to all ages and to all artistic affinities, giving us the opportunity to open our imagination and let ourselves go to our feelings.

“Be Kind, Rewind” runs through March 31st at the gallery located on 16bis rue Catherine Ségurane – 06300 – Nice.
