French artist Gilbert1 opened last week “Never ending Fall”, his newest solo show at Mirus Gallery in San Francisco, CA.

Known for the rawness and honesty of his work and working on different media, Gilbert1 is one of few artists that have managed to translate the language of abstraction to all these mediums through a unique and genuine style. Through the years, he has found his own vocabulary by assembling volume shapes with raw material in reference of a decadent world, and transforming his abstract letter graphics into deconstructed structures.

As explained in the official press release, by creating in situ anamorphosis had led Gilbert1 to develop an optical vision he currently enhances in his studio work. Focusing on black and white drawings as well as studies for tattoos, has brought him to expand his research when it comes to depth, dimension and perspective.

Having this in consideration, Gilbert1 wanted to explore this new direction for his first solo show at Mirus Gallery, by integrating his usual compositions and graphics in a surrounding dimension and play with vanishing points. In “Never ending Fall” he wanted to work on depth and height sensations; a door that suddenly opens under our feet, a kind of never stopping vacuum that creates and recreates a never-ending fall.

“Never ending Fall” runs through March 10th at the gallery located on 540 Howard Street, 3rd Fl, San Francisco, CA.
